It’s too bad she won’t live…
Feb 28th @ 6:00AM
…but then again, who does? Fantastic last words to a fantastic movie. Blade Runner can be considered a vis major in and of itself. Directed by Ridley Scott, a master of film, and based off of the novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” written by Phillip K. Dick. This movie has always stood out from a lot of sci-fi and has remained an important piece of the cinematic pie. I never actually knew why until I watched it last night. Having [...]
The Future Is Nuclear
Feb 22nd @ 6:00AM
It’s been a very long time since I could say I liked Bill Gates, let alone agreed with him. But in a recent Ted talk (Thanks PopSci), he lauded the efforts of President Obama in pushing for a broader use of nuclear power and even supported this idea. Now, when two people, with whom I vehemently disagree most of the time, start talking about turning to nuclear power (something I have been saying for years), it deserves a look into [...]
2012: The Disaster Movie to End All Others
Feb 16th @ 6:00AM
Whenever I watch one of these kind of movies, I am left with one nagging thought. No, it’s not that the science is a little way too out there. Or that due to sheer mathematical probability the main characters should have died at least a dozen times over. The thought that bothers me, and actually makes these movies more enjoyable, is this: “Wow, they must have been pretty damn high to think this crap up.” It makes sense, right? Why [...]
Google Goes For More
Feb 12th @ 6:00AM
Well, it seems everyones favorite internet company is trying to take another leap forward. This time on two fronts. For one by promising language translation software that works right from your cellphone. The second is their new social networking tool, Buzz.
Let’s talk cellphone interpreter first. The basic plan is to create software that can translate on the fly, letting us break through a few language barriers as we traipse across the globe. While this would be totally awesome, even with the ambiguous time-table [...]
Creating a ‘Better Place’
Jan 28th @ 6:00AM
Some of you may know I write for Rhombus Online Magazine, where you will soon be able to find this post as well. With that, Mr. P pointed me at Better Place, as a request to write an article for them, which I obviously did. So what is Better Place?
Simply put, Better Place is a company trying to do for the auto industry what has long been a pipe-dream for every clean-energy, clean-car nut since the ’60s, by making electric [...]
Surprised With Surrogates
Jan 3rd @ 10:29PM
Last night, after discovering my downloads of ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ and ‘2012′ were pretty poor audio and video quality, we decided to watch ‘Surrogates’. This movie was directed by less-known Jonathan Mostow, his resume includes ‘Terminator 3′, ‘U-571′ as well as doing some producing and writing on various other flicks. Michael Ferris and John Brancato wrote this movie, which apparently was based off of a 2005-2006 comic book series. It stared Bruce Willis who gave his typical action hero performance. I [...]
