DC Comics and the New 52
Nov 10th @ 8:40PM
At the end of the summer, DC Comics did something quite bold. Even in the realm of comic books, a genre that is no stranger to parallel realities, continuity changes and plot bending shenanigans, DC did something that hasn’t really be done before. They reset 52 of their comic runs to #1 issues. With the 12 series’ I am now following, it’s evident that DC Comics has hit a home run. The ‘New 52′, as they are calling the reboot, is a major success.
A Taste of, Star Wars: The Old Republic
Aug 18th @ 8:27PM
Recently I’ve had the opportunity to play the beta for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Since I’m a huge fan of the franchise, I was excited to see an MMO for it. I’d never played Star Wars Galaxies, mainly because I never had the chance, but seeing its sordid history I’m glad I wasn’t tainted by it. SWtOR (as I and some friends refer to it) is set 3,500 years before the films, and 300 years after the events of Knights of the Old Republic. You choose between either Republic or Empire as far as factions go. The Empire is the “evil” faction of course and the Republic the “good.”
‘Rise’ to the Occasion
Aug 9th @ 11:53AM
This post began as a reply to a comment a good friend and family member posted to my Google+ post about me thinking Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a smart sci-fi. I’ve only done some light editing to preserve my reaction.
Cowboys & Aliens; Not All Bad
Jul 29th @ 8:18PM
After seeing the first preview for this movie, a hefty groan mixed with laughter escaped my lips. My expectations for this movie were pretty low, but as the months to its release became fewer, I found that Cowboys & Aliens became slightly more appealing. This was good, because as I sat in the piss poor excuse of a theater I watched it in, my mind was able to be cleared of any previous judgement. Almost exactly two hours later, walking out of the theater, feelings of satisfaction washed over me. Not overly or underly, just plain old satisfied. And to be honest, that’s all this movie is, satisfying.
Green Lantern, A Lesson on Expectations and Comic Book Movies
Jun 22nd @ 10:30PM
Start the movie on Earth. Let us actually get to know the main characters and find out who they are before major change is thrust upon them (or let the audience know what the characters dont). Don’t tell us the entire plot of the movie in the opening scene. We already know it’s a superhero [...]
Super 8, not so super
Jun 17th @ 9:37PM
Everyone knows who did this movie. Spielberg and Abrams. What’s very interesting about this movie, is that you’d be able to name those two film makers even if you didn’t know they were already involved. Especially if you’re over 25 or just familiar with Spielberg pre-1990, and have seen Lost, Cloverfield and Star Trek.
Review: X-Men First Class
Jun 5th @ 12:28PM
Since the opportunity arose, I decided to go see X-Men: First Class with a few friends. Before I write my thoughts down, I must first say a few words. I am a not a comic book reader, nor am I particularly familiar with the true origins of the X-Men. But I am comfortable in my appreciation and [...]
Brave New World, Huxleys Vision
Apr 22nd @ 9:41AM
After reading 1984, numerous people told me I must then read Brave New World. This was of course the next book on my list to read anyway, and a few days ago at the local plasma center, I finally finished it. This was a very different book than Orwells depiction of a dystopian future. Aldous [...]
