The Avengers is a fairly unique movie. From everything I know of, no other movie has brought together this many characters from their own, stand-alone films. We’ve had wonderful trilogies and lengthy sagas, but never has Hollywood gambled on such a venture like this. How do you mesh more than a fistful of independent, strong characters that an audience has gotten to know? How do you make a coherent story that wont alienate those that might only enjoy one particular character?
DC Comics and the New 52

At the end of the summer, DC Comics did something quite bold. Even in the realm of comic books, a genre that is no stranger to parallel realities, continuity changes and plot bending shenanigans, DC did something that hasn't really be done before. They reset 52 of their comic runs to #1 issues. With the 12 series' I am now following, it's evident that DC Comics has hit a home run. The 'New 52', as they are calling the reboot, is a major success.
