A Taste of, Star Wars: The Old Republic

0
Recently I've had the opportunity to play the beta for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Since I'm a huge fan of the franchise, I was excited to see an MMO for it. I'd never played Star Wars Galaxies, mainly because I never had the chance, but seeing its sordid history I'm glad I wasn't tainted by it. SWtOR (as I and some friends refer to it) is set 3,500 years before the films, and 300 years after the events of Knights of the Old Republic. You choose between either Republic or Empire as far as factions go. The Empire is the "evil" faction of course and the Republic the "good."
So who comes on top during this?

Motorola+Google? Why it’s a great move…

A number of years ago, Apple announced a new way to communicate while on the go. We all know this as the iPhone. Since then, it has undergone several upgrades via hardware and OS. With each iteration it's gotten better. Other manufacturers have tried matching the pure simplicity, beauty and power of the iPhone. Mostly, this turns into a patent war. Yet what Google did with the release of Android, was to provide an alternative end user experience, and rely on those already with smartphone building experience to meet them in the middle. This has led to some very great phones (Nexus S, G2, Evo, etc) and some colossal failures. Now though, with Google acquiring Motorola, the Android game is going to change.
A relationship that could have been handled better, but sufficed for what it was.

‘Rise’ to the Occasion

This post began as a reply to a comment a good friend and family member posted to my Google+ post about me thinking Rise of the Planet of the Apes was a smart sci-fi. I've only done some light editing to preserve my reaction.

Cowboys & Aliens; Not All Bad

After seeing the first preview for this movie, a hefty groan mixed with laughter escaped my lips. My expectations for this movie were pretty low, but as the months to its release became fewer, I found that Cowboys & Aliens became slightly more appealing. This was good, because as I sat in the piss poor excuse of a theater I watched it in, my mind was able to be cleared of any previous judgement. Almost exactly two hours later, walking out of the theater, feelings of satisfaction washed over me. Not overly or underly, just plain old satisfied. And to be honest, that's all this movie is, satisfying.

Concerning the JWST, NASA and the Future of Science

Yesterday I learned that the US House of Representatives would be voting on another budget cut for NASA. The project most affected would be the James Webb Space Telescope. Feel free to peruse the NASA website about it, or read a decent article here. This caused me great concern, because this telescope will provide discoveries that will make the Hubble Telescope green with envy. As well as re-revolutionize what we know about the universe we inhabit. So I decided to write to Jason Chaffetz, my representative.

Green Lantern, A Lesson on Expectations and Comic Book Movies

Start the movie on Earth.  Let us actually get to know the main characters and find out who they are before major change is thrust upon them (or let the audience know what the characters dont). Don’t tell us the entire plot of the movie in the opening scene.  We already know it’s a superhero movie [...]

Super 8, not so super

Everyone knows who did this movie.  Spielberg and Abrams.  What’s very interesting about this movie, is that you’d be able to name those two film makers even if you didn’t know they were already involved.  Especially if you’re over 25 or just familiar with Spielberg pre-1990, and have seen Lost, [...]
Here we see the WiiU being used as a gun, with attachments.

E3: Nintendo Press Conference

This is a big event for the gaming industry, it’s supposed to debut the next Nintendo console, and an entrance into current gen gaming tech. Nintendo opened with scenes from Zelda games with music provided from a live orchestra.  Very classy.  We can assume this means a return to the franchise. [...]
